The Hindu festival of Vijayadashami celebrates the victory of good over evil. And while none of the planetary influences studied in Western astrology are considered malevolent, current cosmic indicators suggest that fighting for what’s right is a priority. This weekend, with Pluto linking to both Venus and the Sun, we’ll need to mitigate any unwelcome interference. With Jupiter and Mercury about to turn direct, we’ll be able to rise above petty squabbles and enjoy the moral high ground.

ARIES MAR 21 - APR 20

Whenever you consider a problematic scenario, you seem to find a new problem. Are you unreasonably (and unnecessarily) concerned, or are your worries well observed and justified? No one’s qualified to tell you what is and isn’t appropriate. Although appropriate is an everyday word, which seems easy to understand, when we try to define it, it’s not so simple. This weekend brings the chance to reflect. Take it, and use it to reconsider your options. And if you’ve already given this situation a lot of consideration, let it go.

LEO JUL 24 - AUG 23

Tolstoy’s War and Peace is famously one of the world’s longest novels. At a staggering 1225 pages, it’s such a daunting feat that I’m not ashamed to say that I haven’t attempted it. But I think it’s safe to say that the majority of those pages aren’t given over to the peace aspect of the title. War’s more dramatic. There’s more tension, risk, heartbreak, and drama. Peace, on the other hand, is a relatively uneventful thing; there’s not much to write about it. Your weekend may not be filled with action... but that’s not a bad thing?

SAGITTARIUS NOV 23 - DEC 21

We’re fascinated by magic; watching someone conjure something out of thin air gives us a thrill. It’s as if seeing the invisible being transformed into an object, in the blink of an eye, somehow confounds our senses. Even in everyday life, when, for example, we find ourselves in darkness, and someone purposefully strikes a match, we can be transfixed. This weekend, you have the ability to work magic. You have the power to transform even dark, difficult situations. A spark of inspiration can shed light on a problem. Abracadabra.

TAURUS APR 21 - MAY 21

When doctors find themselves facing a patient they know personally, they declare their relationship and hand responsibility over to someone impartial. Yet every now and then, in an emergency, there isn’t time for such professional conduct. They have to put their emotions to the side, get on with the job at hand, and hope that they’re able to be objective when making a diagnosis. Of course, the hardest challenge of all is diagnosing themselves. As you’ll discover this weekend, your prognosis is much better than you think.

VIRGO AUG 24 - SEP 23

If fools rush in where angels fear to tread, why do they sometimes succeed? Maybe, it’s because they’re too foolish to contemplate not being successful, and have miscalculated the risks. Or they’re just lucky. So, does that suggest that people who are cautious, and act wisely, are more foolish than fools? Maybe it’s only the foolish who make judgments. As your ruler, Mercury, prepares to turn direct, if you stop trying to be the arbitrator in a relationship, you’ll allow yourself the space and energy to ‘wise up’ to an opportunity.

CAPRICORN DEC 22 - JAN 20

Some people enjoy worrying. If they haven’t got something to be concerned about, they start to feel really worried. Dealing with life’s trials and tribulations keeps them busy. Difficulties give them something to focus on. If you try to make their lives easier for them, you present them with a challenge that’s so daunting they’re unable to cope. As mysterious Pluto takes centre stage this weekend, it enables you to see the solution to someone’s confusing conundrum. Before you jump in to help, make sure they want your assistance.

GEMINI MAY 22 - JUN 22

We’re never more than a short distance away from something potentially dangerous. There are cars zooming along the roads outside our homes. Pipes filled with gas running through our walls. Fortunately, we rarely have cause to consider these as hazardous. We find it much easier to focus on fears that are further away. Use your time, this weekend, to concentrate on something close to home that needs your care and attention. There’s nothing you need to worry about… but you’ve overlooked an issue that can be simply sorted.

LIBRA SEP 24 - OCT 23

Way beyond our galaxy, there are billions of planets orbiting others stars. Surely some of these are occupied by other creatures? And if so, what’s to guarantee they’d be any less infuriating than the ones who live on planet Earth? Do they, like us, celebrate birthdays? Do they sometimes have so many demands on their time that they don’t know what to do? Or are aliens too sensible for that? If, this weekend, you feel like you live on a different planet, you can find someone close to home who understands just how you feel.

AQUARIUS JAN 21 - FEB 19

We’ve all been told that honesty is the best policy. But suppose the originator of this saying wasn’t telling the truth, and the people who go around saying it are part of the conspiracy? While they spend their time trying to persuade us to be honest, they’re up to no good, obtaining information in order to profit by nefarious means? There’s something on your mind that you want to come clean about. But you’re worried that what you say might be used against you. Be reassured this weekend. Your honesty will be well-received.

CANCER JUN 23 - JUL 23

You might be as bright as a button, but you’re not infallible. Even rocket scientists don’t get it right all the time; they have to learn to double-check themselves before being convinced of their brilliance and announcing results. Overconfidence leads to mistakes. And mistakes are something you can’t afford when you’re designing equipment that can carry people into space. Don’t doubt, for a second, that you’re smart enough to solve this weekend’s dilemma. But don’t jump to conclusions. First impressions aren’t the only ones that count.

SCORPIO OCT 24 - NOV 22

When it comes to matters of health and safety, organisations have long been obliged to train their employees. These days, there are even more instructions to follow in order to keep people safe. We’re all doing risk assessments all the time. This weekend, with your ruler, Pluto, in the celestial spotlight, you can creatively assess an area of your life that’s been restricting you, and find an innovative (safe) way of moving things forwards. A clever combination of common sense and imagination will lead you to success.

PISCES FEB 20 - MAR 20

Our spinning ball of rock is renowned across the universe. Not because of its unusual combination of elements which means that it can sustain life, but because it’s the cosmic home of paradoxes. It’s where all the unanswerable questions exist. Its occupants are masters of be inexplicable, the contradictory, the irrational and the incredible. Any passing UFOs often make a detour just to observe all the ridiculousness in action. Don’t give them too much to watch this weekend, but make good use of the chance to have fun.
