BREWING VENUE OPENS AT HIGHFIELDS TODAY

- MICHAEL NOLAN

IT HAS been five years coming, but Monty Brewing Co is ready for the grand opening of its new venue on the New England Highway at Highfields.

The combined bar, brewery, restaurant and bottle shop had a soft launch two weeks ago.

Co-owner Valerie Chua said she had expected a few close friends and family would stop by in those early days, but the staff had been quickly run off their feet.

“I think word got out, and by day two the entire town was here,” she said.

“It was packed and the atmosphere was buzzing.

“We bought what we thought was enough supplies for a week, but we ran out in three days.”

The venue features a range of craft beers brewed by Dr Chua’s husband Nathan Semmens.

It has more than 40 beers stored in the cold room that the staff will rotate daily.

It also boasts a full restaurant. “We serve lunch and dinner, between those times we run a bar menu,” Dr Chau said.

“It’s brewery food with a twist.” The grand opening runs from 10am-8pm today, with plenty of life music and a jumping castle.
