100 years of bringing music to Queensland

-

THE Queensland Music Teachers Association is celebrating 100 years of operation in Queensland this year and the Toowoomba branch celebrated this milestone on Sunday, October 10, with a luncheon at the Southern Hotel.

It was attended by close to 50 past and present members who were joined by other important musicians within the community.

Special guests were professor Peter Roennfeldt, former director of the Queensland Conservatorium, Wendy Lorenz and Laurence Lepherd, former lecturers in music at USQ, as well as others.

Five of life members – Joyce Abernathy, Barbara Pampling, Robyn Morris, Anne Thomas and Lorraine Fuller – also attended.

A special centenary song was composed by Jason BarrySmith and was performed at the event by Cherie Runciman and five of her students.

This was a highlight of the event and the song portrayed the connection between a music teacher and their students.

Messages were received from past members who couldn’t attend.
