15-y-o girl accused of stabbing

- PETER HARDWICK

A TEENAGE girl has been charged with stabbing a woman in the chest during an altercation at the woman’s Highfields home on Friday.

The woman, in her 40s, was taken by ambulance to Toowoomba Hospital in a serious condition following the alleged incident about 8.30pm Friday.

The 15-year-old girl spent the night in the watch house from where she appeared via video link before the Toowoomba Children’s Court on Saturday charged with grievous bodily harm.

Police claim the girl went to the home of the woman, who was known to her, where an argument ensued and while she was being ushered from the house she allegedly stabbed the woman three times to the chest with a paring knife.

The girl, who as a juvenile cannot be named, was not required to enter any plea.

Her solicitor Matt Gemmell said he had made arrangements for the girl to be taken to Toowoomba Hospital for a mental health assessment.

Magistrate Kay Ryan remanded the girl in custody to be taken to Toowoomba Hospital and adjourned the matter to Monday.
