ANGE’S HOOPS CLOSE GAP ON RANGERS
ANGE Postecoglou’s Celtic have taken advantage of a slipup from great rivals Rangers to move within striking range of the Scottish Premiership leaders after a 2-0 win at Motherwell.
Portuguese winger Jota fired Celtic in front early on from a stellar Tom Rogic pass in the Socceroo’s 50th match for the club.
David Turnbull then doubled the visitors’ advantage on his return to Fir Park with a superb strike from long-range.
The win was important but Postecoglou said the manner of the performance was more pleasing.
“It’s not an easy place to come and control a game and they’ve had a good start to the season and were pretty confident going into it, so the fact that we got two good goals and I don’t think Joe (goalkeeper Joe Hart) had a save to make the whole game, that’s the most pleasing thing,” he said.
Rogic earnt his 50th cap for the club and former Socceroos coach Postecoglou was full of praise for his charge.
“He was brilliant, especially at the start when we needed those extra qualities that he brings,” Postecoglou said.
“His ball to Jota was outstanding and his general play was really good.”
The win puts Celtic just four points behind Rangers, who conceded a late equaliser to draw 1-1 at home to Hearts.
