ACCIDENT AT GATTON SYDNEY MAIL TRAIN DELAYED

While rails were being unloaded from a railway truck a few miles from Gatton station, the truck capsized and delayed the traffic for over an hour. The men engaged in unloading the trucks had narrow escapes from injury. The Sydney mail train was delayed for an hour.

GATTON TO SANDGATE

The excursion train from Gatton to Sandgate on Saturday was well patronised, the train being a full one when it reached the Brisbane Central station. A good many excursioni­sts elected to stop in Brisbane, leaving about 400 people to go on to Sandgate. The visitors had an enjoyable time so far as weather was concerned.

The Legislativ­e Assembly of New South Wales has at length recognised the services of Mr Thomas Scott, of the Clarence, who has for the last 25 years devoted his time and energies to the cultivatio­n of the sugar cane on the Northern seaboard of the adjoining colony.

He has been awarded £20 per month for the term of his natural life.

Mr Scott is said to be now one hundred years of age, and for six years his claim for recognitio­n has been before the Parliament.
