RESIDENT RESCUED FROM FLOODED ROAD

- TOM GILLESPIE

THE rescue of a man who drove into floodwaters west of Toowoomba has prompted the State Emergency Service to remind residents of the dangers that come with wet seasons.

Swiftwater crews escorted the Millmerran man from his van after 3pm on Monday, which was stuck on Oakey Pittsworth Road at Motley.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service said the man’s vehicle stalled halfway through his attempt to navigate the water, after which he rang for help.

SES state director Glenn Alderton said residents should never drive into floodwaters, no matter how deep, or how powerful your vehicle is.

“The highest incidents of deaths during extreme weather events occur when cars are swept off roads,” he said.

Mr Alderton also urged homeowners to prepare for storm season by cleaning out gutters and removing overhanging branches.

He also recommended residents download the SES assistance app, available on Android and Apple.

If you require help from the SES, you can also call 132 500.
