Chose first to listen to Jesus’s teachings

MAKING decisions is an essential part of everyday life. We often make automatic decisions so frequently, we’re unaware of assessing options and making choices. Maybe it’s a life-changing decision: Shall I ask this person to marry me? Shall we purchase this house?

Whether clear-cut or complex, decisions have outcomes which, according to the significance of the decision, may stay with us all our lives – and even into eternity.

Two sisters were very excited. They were expecting a special guest to eat with them. Their guest was their friend, the well-known rabbi, Jesus of Nazareth.

One sister, Martha, welcomed Jesus into the house. She immediately began preparing the meal. Her sister Mary, however, sat at Jesus’ feet listening to His teaching. Martha was upset.

“Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me.”

Jesus answered, “Martha, you are concerned about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken from her.” (Luke 10:42).

May we, too, choose first to listen to His teaching. This is that one necessary good part. And it will not be taken from us.
