ARROW TO MODIFY EXPANSION PLANS

- JARRARD POTTER

A COAL seam gas company has withdrawn an environmental application for new wells near the site of one of the state’s worst environmental contaminations, but will continue ahead with its planned expansion on the site.

In 2020 Arrow Energy lodged an environmental authority amendment application with the Queensland Government’s Department of Environment and Science to expand coal seam gas activities in the Hopeland region as part of their Surat Gas Project.

“In discussions with the Department of Environment and Science, it has been agreed to split Arrow’s environmental amendment application for petroleum lease 253 (PL 253) into two stages,” an Arrow Energy spokesman said.

“The first stage is for 55 CSG wells in the southeastern corner of Arrow’s PL 253 tenure, which is furthest from the Linc site. Arrow’s modelling of the 55 wells shows that this proposed development will not cause measurable changes to the groundwater conditions (both flow direction and quality) on the former Linc Energy site.

“At a later date, a second EA amendment application will be lodged for the remainder of the wells. Arrow has simply withdrawn the original EA amendment application to replace it with two others; one for each stage.”
