Threats land man in court

- JARRARD POTTER

A MAN who threatened to “scalp” a friend after his request to borrow $150 for alcohol was denied has fronted court.

Jason Gavin Wyatt pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to make a threat to cause serious harm.

The court was told that on the afternoon of September 20 this year the victim received a message from the 29-year-old on Facebook messenger, asking to borrow $150.

Police prosecutor Cameron Francis said that the victim refused to lend him the money, and after a conversation between the pair Wyatt began to make violent threats against him. Mr Francis said the threatening messages continued with Wyatt telling the victim “that’s not a threat, that’s a promise”.

The court was told the victim became fearful and reported the messages to police.

Wyatt’s solicitor Claire Graham told the court her client didn’t remember sending the messages as he was heavily intoxicated, and had no intention to follow through with the threats.

Wyatt was fined $750 and a conviction was recorded.
