Million reasons for jab

Toowoomba woman wins $1000 from Covid vax

- JARRARD POTTER

AN ANONYMOUS group of philanthropists and corporations have stumped up $4.1 million in prize money to encourage people to get the Covid jab, with people across Toowoomba scoring $1000 gift cards as part of the promotion.

Sheree Waters was one lucky winner in the monthlong promotion, but admitted she was a little sceptical at first.

“I was watching the news on TV one night and they had a story about it, so I thought I’d take a look,” she said.

“I submitted my details and lo and behold I got an email back a few days later saying that I had won a $1000 gift card.”

Ms Waters said the win was a surprise and came soon after she graduated from the University of Southern Queensland with a Bachelor of Business and Commerce after six years of study.

“It was certainly a few weeks of good things,” she said.

“I usually have terrible luck with these sort of things.”

Million Dollar Vax Alliance chair Craig Winkler said the promotion was inspired by a successful campaign in Ohio.

Mr Winkler said the promotion was created by a group of philanthropists to drive vaccination rates above 80 per cent nationally as quickly as possible.

“We are thrilled by the number of entries we have received to date in the Million Dollar Vax campaign,” Mr Winkler said.

“We have received entries from more than 3600 postcodes across Australia and with seven days to go in the promotion there are still more than $1.2 million in daily prizes and the major $1 million prize for all Australians aged 18 and over who have had at least one Covid-19 vaccination by October 31.

“The aim is to accelerate Australia’s Covid-19 vaccination program in a safe way throughout the month of October.

“The faster we reach higher vaccination rates nationally, higher than 80 per cent, the sooner we all can safely resume our full range of community and business activity.”

The Million Dollar Vax promotion will see $4.1 million worth of prizes given away, including 100 daily $1000 gift cards as well as the ultimate prize of $1,000,000 cash which will be drawn on November 5.
