Town and Country Club Toowoomba

Bowls of snapdragons, golden broom and mauve rhododendrons made a charming display in the reception rooms at the Town and Country Club, where Mrs TP Connolly entertained a number of friends at a Melbourne Cup party. Bridge was arranged in the lounges.

At tables beautified with bowls of pink roses and sweet peas a buffet tea was served.

The hostess featured a frock of black and white figured French crepe de chene fashioned with long sleeves and trimmed at the neckline with white gros grain ribbon. She added a wide-leafed black ballibuntle straw hat finished with white flowers, and black accessories.

Toowoomba Riding Club

As an indication of the enthusiasm shown, nearly 50 persons attended a meeting on Wednesday night at Leichney’s rooms, when a Toowoomba Riding Club was formed. The objects of the club include the fostering of a love for horses, to improve the health of old and young people by outdoor exercise (which is impossible by driving in motor cars), to encourage the breeding of good horses, and to help the man on the land by the purchase of fodder. The first ride will take place on a date to be fixed, which will be advertised in the “Chronicle.” High tea will be served at 6pm and the party will return to town in the moonlight. The following officers were appointed: Patron, Mr EED White; president, Mr JH White; secretary, Mr T White; committee, Mrs EED White, Misses M Scholefield and B Kent, General JC Robertson, and Mr BP Wood.
