Conveyance between Drayton and Toowoomba

It will be seen, by a reference to another column, that Mr Enoch Death of Toowoomba, purposes running a light spring conveyance between Drayton and Toowoomba. Yesterday a trial trip was made, and we are gratified to announce successfully. The fares each way are very moderate, and we hope the speculation will prove a lucrative one. It is an exhibition of public spirit, which ought to meet with encouragement. The Goat Nuisance Very serious injury has been done to some of the gardens of the inhabitants of Drayton lately, by the depredations of flocks of goats, which are permitted to roam at large in all parts of the town contrary to the provisions of the Act of Council. We have heard of several instances where the crops of growing vegetables have been wholly destroyed by these disagreeable quadrupeds, whereby considerable inconvenience and expense has been caused to the sufferers. It appears to us only reasonable and just that a stop should at once be put to this nuisance, by the destruction of the animals if the owners thereof do not take the necessary steps to prevent their doing further mischief in future. It is their duty to keep them within bounds, and if through their negligence in not looking after these pets, the neighbours property should happen to suffer, they need not be surprised if the constables, in carrying out the law, should pay no attention to their entreaties to spare the animals for the time coming.
