FRIENDS of Dean Rodighiero have launched a fundraising appeal to support his wife and daughters after his sudden and tragic death.

The 44-year-old father of three was laying carpet in the Neo Tokyo store in Margaret Street when he was overcome by carbon monoxide fumes emanating from a generator on Monday.

Mr Rodighiero collapsed at the scene and was rescued by two police officers about 6pm.

They carried him from the gasfilled room and started resuscitation procedures while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

Sadly Mr Rodighiero could not be revived and he died at Toowoomba Hospital.

Stacey Benz, along with two of Mr Rodighiero friends started the appeal to help his wife Jasmine.

It raised more than $4000 in one day.

“Knowing that Jasmine will never ask for help, we feel the need to ask for her,” Ms Benz said.

“Jasmine has become a single mother overnight and we cannot fathom what the next few months and years will be like for their girls.”

The tragedy has hit the community hard with many people taking to social media to express their sadness at Mr Rodighiero’s sudden passing.

He was respected and admired by his fellow tradesmen.

“You were always a pleasure to work with,” Jason Scholefield said.

“Rest easy buddy, top bloke always up for a beer and a chat,” Tanya Griffiths said.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has launched an investigation into the matter, assisted by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and the police.

This will take time as will sorting out Mr Rodighiero’s finances and funeral arrangements, which is why Ms Benz has appealed for help.

“Jasmine and the girls have been flooded with kindness,” she said.

“Their fridges and freezers are full of meals made with love as so many of you are calling with offers to assist.

“We thought that this will allow people to contribute in a way that will assist in covering some of the funeral costs and allow Jasmine and the girls the time to grieve.

“Any small amount is greatly appreciated.”
