TCI CONTENDERS SET FOR TOP TWO SHOWDOWN

-

CRICKET: A blockbuster battle between second and third headlines the third round of the Toowoomba A-grade two-day season.

Fresh off back-to-back wins, Northern Brothers Diggers can secure a finals spot when hosting Western Districts at Bob Butler Oval (Rockville Park).

Diggers have been in strong form since the new year, particularly bowler Todd Martens who has finished with five-wicket hauls in consecutive matches.

Wests picked up their first win of the season against Highfields-Railways, with Shaun McCarthy’s seven wickets and 63 runs from Luke Neale the catalyst for the success.

Metropolitan-Easts heads to Highfields to take on the Bulldogs and chase its thirdstraight outright victory of the two-day season.

Currently they hold a commanding 14 point lead at the top of the standings and will look to potentially seal the minor premiership this weekend.

University plays host to Southern Districts in a must-win match for both sides, with a loss to either ending their hopes of playing finals cricket.

Play starts at 12.30pm on Saturday.

Toowoomba Grammar School will look to get off the mark in its GPS season, heading east to take on Nudgee College.

Grammar was downed by Ipswich in the opening round on home soil, with the top order unable to put big partnerships together on their way to a total of 140.

Some good bowling from multiple players kept them in the hunt.

Nudgee is coming off a 14-run win over The Southport School in a game where both sides were able to post totals of 200+.
