Woman fights off teenager

AN ELDERLY woman was left bruised and shaken up after she fought back during a brazen robbery in Queens Park.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the 74year-old woman was sitting on a park bench when she was approached by a 16-year-old boy about 4.15pm on Wednesday.

The boy grabbed the woman’s handbag, but his getaway was thwarted by the woman who refused to let go of her property.

Meanwhile, a member of the public altered a nearby police patrol.

The boy pulled the handbag free and left on foot.

He was arrested a short time later thanks to some “good police work” the spokeswoman said.

Police held the boy in custody overnight as he was wanted in connection to several ongoing offences, but they are yet to formally charge the boy over the robbery.

Paramedics assessed the woman. She declined the offer of transport to hospital.
