THUNDER LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK

- JASON GIBBS

FOOTBALL: Defeat is never an easy pill to swallow, but the SWQ Thunder finished their midweek clash more frustrated than angry.

Away to FQPL 1 cellar dwellers Southside Eagles, the Thunder lost 4-2 after trailing 3-0 at halftime.

At home this Sunday to Ipswich Knights, they’ll be looking to return to the winner’s circle, and assistant men’s team coach Sam Gahan is confident they can get the job done.

FOOTBALL: SWQ Thunder gave them the opportunities and Southside Eagles swooped down and ‘snatched up their prey’ on Tuesday night.

Eagles had four first-half opportunities and scored three goals in the FQPL 1 clash between the sides earlier this week.

The Thunder ‘won’ the second, outscoring the Eagles 2-1, but the loss of Jordan Howard (pictured) to a red card was ultimately too much to overcome in their 4-2 defeat.

“They (Eagles) were clinical. We looked at the video and in the first half they had four chances and scored three goals – two of which were off set pieces we gave away,” Thunder assistant coach Sam Gahan said.

“We gave them the opportunities and they capitalised.”

At home to Ipswich Knights this Sunday, Gahan said the Thunder will need to be what the Eagles were against them.

“At the end of the game with Eagles we were frustrated,” Gahan said.

“We pushed them in the second half and scored goals but not enough.

“Against Knights we have to be ruthless in front of goal like Eagles were against us.

“We have to play to our strength, which is our attack, and take our opportunities.”
