HELP A MOTHER GIVE BACK THIS MOTHER’S DAY

- MORGAN BURLEY

AT 34 years of age, Charmaine Vlietstra’s son had to be rushed to a Brisbane Hospital with a brain bleed.

Thankfully, RACQ’s Lifeflight Rescue Service crew was able to transport the patient quickly.

Following his recovery, Mrs Vlietstra said the Lifeflight crew played a pivotal part in her son’s survival.

Now she has chosen to give back to them.

Working as a volunteer at the Mother’s Day gift wrapping station, Mrs Vlietstra is helping to raise funds for the organisation.

“We rely on the community to help us fund our service,” RACQ Lifeflight Rescue Service community engagement and activities co-ordinator Jillian Huth said.

“We do receive government funding, but our Lifefight Foundation makes up 30 per cent shortfall each year in our funding. and that's raised through our events like Mother’s Day gift wrapping.”

Ms Huth said the gift wrapping station raised $1500 last year.

“It was a great injection of funds for us, so we’re hoping it will do the same this year,” she said.

The station is located near Myer and is available for shoppers to access today.

The wrapping cost depends on the gift size.
