BEST OF THE BEST RECOGNISED WITH USQ HIGHEST HONOURS

SIX honorary award recipients have been recognised by the University of Southern Queensland for their achievemen­ts across a range of specialtie­s.

Professor Emeritus Paul Bates, Professor Emeritus John Cole, Professor Emeritus John Thompson, Professor Emeritus Gerald Tehan, Dr Carol Cox AM and Major General (Retd) Stuart Smith AO DSC were celebrated in a recent ceremony.

Professor Bates played a pivotal role in USQ becoming the first regional university as part of the Qantas Group Future Pilot Program.

Professor Cole OAM has more than 30 years’ experience on not-for profit and public interest boards, while Professor Thompson has extensive experience within the Australian grain industries.

Professor Tehan first taught at USQ in 1986, and enjoyed a successful career in psychology.

Dr Cox received an honorary award of Doctor of Sciences, with more than 40 years in the health sector and previously serving with the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Major General Smith has a military career of more than 36 years, and has served the nation overseas and on home soil.
