CARNIVAL COSTINGS

-

I AM underwhelmed by the Mayor Paul Antonio’s announcement that the Carnival of Flowers attracted 285,000 people and they spent $22 million during 30 days.

That clearly works out at $77.20 each.

With 155,000 staying overnight a lot of people must come here and spend nothing at all.

Is all the effort and cost by council really worth it?

We don’t know because the TRC with their smoke and mirrors do not publish any review that includes a comparison with other similar events like Canberra’s Floriade or Bowral’s Tulip Time Festival.

This year we can all reflect on the way council is driving away workers who cannot find suitable housing due to a lack of planning for the future.

The councillors will no doubt connect with their ‘sparkles’ in their champagne flutes in the park.

No thoughts then about the homeless.
