HEAVY RAIN WASHES OUT BIG EVENTS

- MORGAN BURLEY

FORECAST downpours and already sodden ground have led to two big weekend events being canned.

Fundraising event the David Hack Classic, scheduled for Sunday, was cancelled due to the incoming rain.

Hosted by Toowoomba North Rotary, the event was to showcase a collection of classic and vintage vehicles and aircraft.

Meanwhile the Hampton Food and Arts Festival, also scheduled for this Sunday, has been postponed to June 26.

“With the amount of water that is already on site, and the forecast for more heavy rainfall between now and Sunday, we have decided to postpone this Sunday’s event,” festival operations manager Renee Edge said.

“Executing a safe and enjoyable event is at the forefront of everything we do and we don’t believe we can deliver on this with the current rain situation.”

The region could receive close to 100mm of rain in the coming days, with sandbags available to concerned residents. Visit thechronicle.com.au for future updates.

?? ?? CANCELLED: Hannah Evans at a previous David Hack Classic. The 2022 event was scheduled for Sunday, but has been cancelled.
