Changes to waste levy cost

- TOM GILLESPIE

THE Toowoomba Regional Council will pay more to the State Government for rubbish sent to landfill as part of increases to Queensland’s waste levy, but end users won’t be feeling the cost yet.

Councillors endorsed a change to council’s fees and charges at Tuesday’s meeting, after it was announced the levy would increase by $10 per tonne every year.

The levy, introduced in 2019, is designed to incentive diverting waste from landfill.

Acting waste services manager David O’Shea flagged the rebate the council received from the government to offset costs to end-users would taper off from 105 per cent to 20 per cent over the next decade.
