Want to change?

WANT to change? Feel like it’s too hard? Wonder what the first step is?

Change can be hard and confronting. So often we come up with an internal list of rules we think will help us to change – don’t gamble; it’s not helping my family, don’t judge someone; usually wrong anyway, don’t get angry again; everyone around me is being hurt by it.

We make these internal rules or we assume that others are making them for us.

What we want is new behaviour, what we desire is something to change but we can’t seem to do it.

The Bible has the answer – repent.

To repent is to turn from. When we turn from something, it’s hard to keep doing it.

To turn is the action of change. When we turn to Jesus, we are putting ourselves in His hands, submitting to Him and asking Him to oversee the change.

From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Matthew 4:17
