Two hit bottle shop, crash stolen Mazda into vehicle

TWO 15-year-old girls were hospitalis­ed after they crashed a stolen Mazda 2 into a HiLux at the intersecti­on of James and Ruthven Streets in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics were called to the scene about 4.30am and treated a 48-year-old woman for shock.

She was not physically injured.

The teenage girls in the Mazda fled on foot and were arrested a short distance from the crash.

Police have linked the girls to a smash-and-grab at the Ridge Shoppingwo­rld BWS bottle shop that occurred a short time prior to the crash.

Toowoomba CIB acting-officer-in-charge John Cunningham said police would allege the girls stole a quantity of cigarettes, though investigat­ions were continuing.

The girls were transporte­d to Toowoomba Hospital under police guard to have their injuries treated.

They remain in custody while police prepare to charge them.

The girls are from Brisbane and had stolen the Mazda 2 from a Brisbane address.

A 15-year-old Brisbane girl was on Wednesday afteroon charged with two counts of burglary, one count of unlawful use of motor vehicle, and one count of stealing.

Another 15-year-old Brisbane girl was charged with three counts of fraud, onecount of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of entering a premises.

Both girls were held in police custody overnight to appear in the Toowoomba Childrens Court today.
