Delivery driver robbed

A NEWTOWN man has been charged in relation to an alleged armed robbery where a food delivery driver was threatened with a knife.

About 3.45pm on Tuesday, April 26 two men approached a food delivery driver on Betty Street before one of the men allegedly took out a knife and threatened the driver, demanding the keys to the driver’s vehicle.

The male victim complied and was not harmed in the incident, with the two men allegedly fleeing the scene in the delivery driver’s vehicle, a 2004 silver Toyota Camry.

Police say the vehicle was later found abandoned in Diagonal Street, South Toowoomba.

Following inquiries into the matter Toowoomba detectives arrested a 20-year-old Newtown man on Monday, where he was charged with armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

After he was denied police bail, Axle Glenn Ferris appeared in Toowoomba Magistrate­s Court on Monday.

His lawyer, Nathan Bouchier, told the court his client was on parole at the time of the alleged offence.

Acting magistrate Lisa O’Neill adjourned the matter to be mentioned again today.
