Reps make maternity promise

- MORGAN BURLEY

DARLING Downs health professionals and maternity representatives have gathered to pledge ongoing support for the region’s maternity services.

Toowoomba Hospital nursing and midwifery director Wendy Fry said a pledge was made to ensure women were at the centre of the Darling Down services.

“We pledge to support the psychosocial, emotional and physical health of women on their motherhood journey and we will genuinely partner with the women in our care and support their right to choose,” she said.

“We also pledge freedom from harm and ill treatment, the right to equity in healthcare, informed consent, our Darling Downs Health values of compassion, integrity, dignity, innovation and courage, as well as a right to confidentiality.”

Ms Fry said the pledge was co-designed with women who used the services, and while there was room for improvement, the professionals recognised the importance of ensuring all services, interactions and care were meeting the needs of women and their families.
