Toowoomba talent scores first century abroad

- SEAN TEUMA

CRICKET: While the season is over domestically, one of Toowoomba’s young female stars is making big inroads abroad.

Jaimie-Lee Strang produced her finest moment since making the move to England to play with Leigh, smashing an unbeaten ton in their match against the Stockport Georgians.

In a team effort where they scored 163, Strang hit 14 boundaries on her way to an unbeaten 104 in just her fifth game for her new club.

The wet conditions proved a challenge for the side, but Strang was able to push through for an impressive knock.

“She hit the ball hard and punished the bad ball but was solid in defence,” coach David Dove said.

“She gets right forward to the ball when defending and has a good range of shots.

“Was good fortune on her side? Possibly, yes, as she chipped a few early on before she’d worked out pace of wicket, but we make our own luck in this game.”

Teammate Rachael Walsh was full of praise for the young talent and her score.

“Jaimie-Lee played a grownup game today, and that will stay with her,” Walsh said.

“Building an innings for herself but also building a total to defend for the team is grown-up cricket on a spongy wicket.”
