Battle of the big birds headlines TRL round six

- SEAN TEUMA

A GIANT clash between the unbeaten Gatton Hawks and defending grand finalists Highfields headlines round six of the Toowoomba Rugby League.

Local football returns across the Darling Downs this week after round five was abandoned due to wet weather and road closures.

The Hawks have been phenomenal to start the A-grade season, leading the competition in both points scored and conceded to post a massive differential of 178 from their four games.

Highfields has been strong also, with the only blemish coming in the form of a narrow loss to Wattles.

Should the Hawks lose and Wattles return from Goondiwindi with the two points, the Warriors will sit in outright first at the top of the standings.

There’s a chance both the Gatton men and women will sit alone atop the tables with the Hawks women making the trip to Highfields as well.

Like their male counterparts, they too boast the best differential in the competition and sit three points clear on top, however Valleys and Newtown both have a game in hand through five rounds.
