Image risk puts end to bail bid
NOTORIOUS Porsche driver Richard Pusey has been refused bail because he could continue to share graphic images of the horror Eastern Freeway crash that killed four police officers.
Magistrate Michelle Mykytowycz ruled against the millionaire mortgage broker’s latest bid for freedom in Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Ms Mykytowycz said there were no conditions she could impose to alleviate concerns by police that he still had access to the images from the April 2020 crash.
The court heard police suspected Pusey would continue to share the images he took of dead and dying police officers at the scene as he had refused to hand over passwords to his electronic devices.
They fear he could also access the images on iCloud if released.
“I am unable to fashion a condition of bail that can be imposed to reduce this risk to an acceptable level,” Ms Mykytowycz said.
She also expressed concerns about no treatments, in particular for his mental health, being put in place for his proposed release.
In a last-minute attempt to change her mind, Pusey said he had booked an appointment with a psychologist.
But Ms Mykytowycz explained that was only one hurdle of her refusing his application.
Police allege Pusey attached the crash scene images to a complaint made to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority in November about his car insurance company, PSC Insurance Group, rejecting his claim over his Porsche, which was damaged in the collision.
He had been stopped for speeding on the freeway when a drug-addled truck driver ploughed into them on the roadside, killing the four police officers: Glen Humphris, Kevin King, Lynette Taylor and Joshua Prestney.
