Man loses his licence and his job
CELEBRATING a new job in the wine industry with some of the product led to a 34-yearold Toowoomba man being caught drink-driving, and as a result losing that job.
David Albert Grant had celebrated his first week in a new job at a Granite Belt winery with a few wines but blew a breath/alcohol reading of 0.15 when pulled over by police on the New England Highway at Glen Aplin when he was driving to buy cigarettes, Toowoomba Magistrates Court has heard.
He pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence.
His solicitor John Davis, of Kennedy Spanner Lawyers, told the court his client had lost his dream job as a result and had returned to Toowoomba in his trade as a chef.
His client had since completed a Queensland Traffic Offenders Program and because of his loss of licence would have to rely on his partner driving him, Mr Davis said.
Magistrate Kay Phillipson said because Grant had already suffered extra-curial punishment she would impose the minimum driving disqualification of six months and fine him $750.
