Talking points of the TRL round 6

- SEAN TEUMA

RUGBY LEAGUE: Here are the five main talking points from round six of the Toowoomba Rugby League.

BROTHERS SAVES THE DAY

For a number of teams the prospect of a fortnight without rugby league was a real possibility, before Brothers made two selfless decisions.

Matches set down for Gold Park (Souths vs Valleys) and Kuhls Rd (Highfields vs Gatton) were set to be postponed due to ground closures, but the gates of Glenholme Park were thrown open.

It was a nice gesture to host six games of senior football across the two days, particularly given the uncertainty with the weather and the lasting damage that could’ve been caused with the horrendous conditions.

It ensures all six games were played at the weekend, which leads to our next point ......

PLAY WENT ON, BUT AT WHAT COST?

We joke about the laundromats rubbing their hands together at the thought of extra business with the state of uniforms from the weekend, but games going ahead creates a real issue now.

What will the state of playing surfaces look like over the next couple of weeks?

Some of the pictures coming out of local grounds saw fields resemble something you’d expect monster trucks to drive on, not footy players.

That’s not a knock on ground staff who bust their backsides, but more so the near impossible weather conditions they were faced with.

Let’s hope surfaces get a chance to recover and aren’t too badly impacted.
