Fiji cure can save Turbo’s season

- DEAN RITCHIE

A LOAF of bread, butter, kava, milk and some cigarettes.

That’s all it would cost for Manly superstar Tom Trbojevic to have a miracle Fijian treatment that would have him back from a shoulder injury four-and-a-half months early for State of Origin I on June 8.

Fijian locals say Trbojevic would recover in just eight days if he had his shoulder wrapped in special and traditional herbal leaves blessed by God.

Nestled in a small village called Nadromai, in the Nadroga province of Viti Levu, is a healing tree which locals believe can cure sickness, broken bones and torn ligaments. They say the leaves have mystical therapeutic powers.

Several former All Blacks returned to the field early from long-term injuries after travelling to Nadromai to try the leaves, which can only be administered by the one family, members of whom have been dubbed witch doctors.

Fanatical Manly fan Moshin Javed Nabi, who grew up in Fiji, has watched friends be cured by the leaves. He has also been a beneficiary.

Nabi took to the Manly Facebook page this week to urge Trbojevic to fly to Fiji for the treatment.

It would involve having his shoulder covered in leaves for four days before the injury would be redressed in leaves for a further four days. The leaves can also be massaged into the injury.

After just eight days, the recovery would be complete and villagers say Trbojevic would be fit for Manly and the Blues. Those administering the cure don’t want money, just some household goods.

Nabi posted on Facebook: “Please someone from Manly or Turbo contact me.

“In my village in Fiji they have herbal leaves which will heal his injury in less than two weeks.”

Josateki Vakalagi and Isei Naiova are said to be the two brothers who claim God has given them healing powers.
