12 activities to help keep children busy

1. SCIENCENTR­E

THERE are 13 interactiv­e activities at the Sciencentr­e to keep busy kids happy these holidays.

Kids will love the hands-on activities such as the flight test and gravity run, while learning about science at the same time.

Entry to the Sciencentr­e is free with Cobb and Co museum admission.

2. SAFARI PUTT-PUTT

This free putt-putt course in Grand Central is guaranteed to entertain all members of the family, with a few safari animals thrown in too.

The safari putt-putt event is located on level one, outside H&M at Grand Central until July 10.

Sessions run from 10am to 2pm daily.

3. SPY: ESPIONAGE IN AUSTRALIA

An exhibition for adults and kids, Spy: Espionage in Australia displays real artefacts as well as interactiv­e activities to create the perfect family event for the school holidays. Check out the equipment and disguises used by ASIO while cracking codes and writing in invisible ink at Cobb and Co Museum.

Entry to Spy: Espionage in Australia is free with museum admission.

4. FREE PAINTING WORKSHOP

The Lighthouse Toowoomba is holding free painting workshops for children from years 5-7 with artist and teacher Jodie Rigby.

Classes will run from 10am to 3pm both Tuesday, June 28 and Wednesday, June 29 at 126 Margaret St, Toowoomba.

Kids are expected to bring their own lunch and water bottles.

5. AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER ACTIVITIES

The Toowoomba City library has got the perfect afternoon of activities for fans of Avatar The Last Airbender: Earth Kingdom on Wednesday, June 29.

Kids will problem solve in teams and create their own earth kingdom bag. The program runs from 3pm to 4.30pm, and parents can register via Toowoomba Regional Libraries.

6. GO KARTING

Keep the big kids busy these school holidays at the new Go Karting track at Withcott.

Open seven days a week for the school holidays, the new track is guaranteed to get the adrenaline pumping. Adrenaline Sports is located at 668 Toowoomba Connection Rd, Withcott. Visit their Facebook page for more info.

7. BLACKSMITH­ING TEEN WORKSHOP

Teens looking to try a new skill and create their very own key ring or fire poker are encouraged to join the blacksmith­ing teen workshop at Cobb and Co Museum on Thursday.

For $95 teens will learn the tricks of the trade from Terry Drennan and be able to make their own creation at the end.

Morning and afternoon sessions are available depending on what you would like to make, and bookings can be made via the Cobb and Co museum website.

8. PINOT AND PICASSO KIDS CLASS

Pinot and Picasso are running a kids’ painting workshop and it is the perfect opportunit­y to keep your little artists busy these holidays.

Great for kids aged seven and up, the workshop runs from 2pm on Tuesday, June 28.

Tickets are $39.

9. THEATRE WORKSHOP

Mashed Theatre is hosting workshops through these school holidays for the youngest actors to learn new skills and master their craft.

Kids aged between nine and 12 can attend a three-day workshop from Wednesday, June 29 to Friday, July 1. The workshops cost $200 per child.

10. PARK POP-UP

A free event for kids aged 11 to 17, the Park Pop-up provides sporting activities, sausage sizzle, support services, games and giveaways. The Park Pop-up will take place at Wilsonton Heights Park, Port St, Wilsonton Heights from 10am to 1pm on Friday, July 1.

11. MAD FOOD SCIENCE

If you are looking to get the family eating healthier and happier these school holidays then this event is the perfect mix between fun and education.

Mad Food science is held in the Toowoomba City Library on Tuesday, June 28 from 9am to noon.

The sessions costs $5 per person. Bookings are necessary and can be made on 0457184513.

12. KIDS FLORISTRY CLASS

Yandilla Rose is hosting multiple floristry classes just for kids these school holidays in Pittsworth.

Kids will get to bring two of their creations home and enjoy a provided morning tea.

Perfect for kids aged five to 12, there are classes on Tuesday, June 28, Thursday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 5.

The classes costs $50 each and will be held at Chenyl’s Dance Academy of Dance, 7 Evans St, Pittsworth. Bookings to be made via Yandilla Rose Facebook.
