Accused burglar bailed

Man on 29 charges including eight burglaries

- PETER HARDWICK

ONE of two people charged with a string of burglaries in Toowoomba and Brisbane has been granted bail after appearing in the city’s Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Bud-Dee Glazbrook and a woman co-accused were arrested by police in Toowoomba on Friday after the search of a city motel.

Applying for bail on Glazbrook’s behalf, solicitor Chelsea Saldumbide, of McConnell Saldumbide Lawyers, told the court her client was not at the motel at the time but was receiving treatment at Toowoomba Hospital, but his coaccused was at the motel.

Police claim property stolen from some of the burglaries was found inside a stolen car linked to the pair as well as inside their motel room, the court heard.

However, Ms Saldumbide submitted it appeared the only link between her client and the vehicle was a statement allegedly made by Glazbrook to a motel receptionist along the lines of the vehicle was parked close to their room because the car could not be locked.

Ms Saldumbide said there was no evidence such as DNA or fingerprints linking her client to the burglaries.

Police prosecutor Cameron Francis said the police investigation was ongoing and forensics officers were still examining the crime scenes.

Magistrate Louise Shephard said she had to decide on the bail application on the evidence as it stood regardless of the ongoing investigation.

Glazbrook, 29, was not required to enter any pleas to the charges which include eight counts of burglary, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, fraud, stealing and 15 counts of receiving.

His 31-year-old co-accused appeared before the same court on Monday on similar charges and was remanded in custody without making a bail application as she was on a return to prison warrant.

Ms Saldumbide said Glazbrook had only known his coaccused for three weeks and would live with his father in Kippa-Ring if granted bail.

Magistrate Shephard granted bail on condition Glazbrook reside with his father, report to police three times a week, comply with a nightly curfew to be at home between 9pm and 7am and have no contact with his co-accused.
