7 down, only 11 more to swear in

- Tom Minear in New York

Seven jurors have been sworn in so far for Donald Trump’s hush money trial, but the court still needs to find five more – as well as six alternates, which is proving far from easy. Contenders were asked about their opinion of Mr Trump, their political views and interests. Meet the first seven: JUROR 1: The foreman is a salesman originally from Ireland. He is married, has no children and says his hobbies include “anything outdoorsy”. He reads The New York Times and the Daily Mail and occasionally watches Fox News.

JUROR 2: The young oncology nurse enjoys taking her dog to the park. She keeps up with the news from The New York Times, CNN, Facebook and Google. Asked for her opinion of Mr Trump, she said: “I don’t really have one.”

JUROR 3: Unmarried man of Asian descent is a corporate lawyer. He hikes and runs and checks The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Google for the news headlines.

“I am actually not super familiar with the other charges,” he said of Mr Trump’s other cases.

JUROR 4: Self-employed IT consultant from Puerto Rico has lived in New York for 40 years. Has two grandchildren and said: “My hobby is my family.” Gets his news from the New York Daily News, The New York Times and Google.

Asked about Mr Trump, he said: “He walks into a room and he sets people off.”

JUROR 5: Young unmarried black woman is a teacher from Harlem. Google and TikTok are her news sources. “President Trump speaks his mind … I’d rather that than someone who you don’t know what they’re thinking,” she said.

JUROR 6: Young woman is a software engineer who enjoys plays, dancing, watching TV and eating at restaurants. The New York Times and TikTok are her sources of news.

JUROR 7: Civil lawyer and father of two listens to podcasts and enjoys time outside with his kids. Reads The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post and The Washington Post. Has “political views” about Mr Trump’s presidency but not “about him personally”.
