Former Home and Away star to stay behind bars

- Jack Evans

Former Home and Away star Orpheus Pledger is behind bars on assault charges.

The 30-year-old actor has been on remand since March 27 after his bail was refused, facing charges related to assault and causing injury.

Pledger briefly appeared via video link on Monday morning to have his matter mentioned, where his counsel, Jasper Mac

Cuspie, requested the matter be adjourned.

Pledger’s matter, a scheduled bail application, and an application for a suppression order will all be heard later this month, with Pledger remaining on remand until that date.

By then, Pledger will have spent almost a month behind bars while on remand.

A recurring face in Australian TV since his childhood, Pledger played a significant role in Neighbours in 2011, appeared in 339 episodes of Home and Away between 2016 and 2019, and starred as Tycho Everson in the mid-2000s dystopian teen drama Silversun.

He more recently made a short-lived appearance in the third season of SAS Australia in 2022, but abruptly quit the show after cast and crew expressed concerns over his “erratic behaviour”.

While a Home and Away cast member and a contender for Cosmo Bachelor of the Year, Pledger made headlines in mid-2018 after saving a woman from a violent assault at the hands of a hooded predator in Sydney’s Surry Hills.

“He just made a run for her. He ran 10 or 15 metres and grabbed her full around the body and threw her to the ground,” Pledger told The Daily Telegraph afterwards.

“My gut told me something was up. I was pretty frightened but the adrenaline kicked in. My initial reaction was for me to step in and to help.” Acting roles seemingly dried up for Pledger following his departure from Home and Away when his character Mason Morgan, an aspiring student doctor on the show, was killed off in November 2019.

And his attempt to kickstart a comeback on SAS Australia was cut short.
