Inquisitive Legend can answer challenge

- Adam Sherry

Co-trainer Lee Curtis isn’t underestimating the challenge facing Inquisitive Legend but feels the filly has made the right improvement to go backto-back.

Only a small percentage of horses follow a maiden victory with success at their next start and Inquisitive Legend is striving to achieve the feat when she steps out in the Midway Class 1 Handicap (1250m). “It’s not easy to win your maiden and come out a win a Class 1 next start,” Curtis said.

“That run has brought her on even more. She is really well at home. She makes her own luck which is a good asset to have and I can’t fault her.”

In the three-year-old’s favour is that she returns to the same track and distance as her April 3 victory over Summer Soiree and Extremely Frilly.

She was first-up from a spell that day when she rolled forward to lead and gave a good kick on straightening before scoring by just over a length.

“It wasn’t unexpected. She has been promising all the way through but last preparation probably just came a bit soon for her,” he said.

“She matured nicely during her spell. She’s not slow maturing but she just needed that extra time.

“So often, having that first racing campaign with a run or two helps bring them on during the spell and they come back bigger, stronger and more focused.

“She has always shown very good ability at home but those first couple of runs and that one extra spell, she has really stepped up. She has drawn okay, has Tyler (Schiller) on board and goes back to the same track and trip as her win.”
