Kids set to wet a line in free fishing coaching day

-

FISHING: Southern Cross Fishing Club will host a free Sunfish Queensland kids fishing day next month.

The annual day is open for girls and boys in the 8-14 year age group and will be held on Saturday, May 19 from 9am to 3pm.

This year’s event is planned for Lake Cressbrook — subject to it being open — otherwise it will be held at Cooby Dam.

The format for the event will be similar to last year.

Teams of kids will rotate through a number of “stands” where experienced fishing coaches will instruct on a range of fishing topics, including environmental considerations, fishing safety, fishing equipment, knots, lure and bait selection and casting.

The day will finish with a few hours fishing from the bank of the lake.

A morning tea and barbecue lunch will be provided for the kids and parents.

Each kid will receive a rod, reel and tackle box and other fishing related “freebies”.

To register, contact the Southern Cross Fishing Club president on 0437 503 535 or email southerncrossfishingclub@hotmail.com to receive registration forms.

Places are limited and parents are urged to register asap.

Parents are encouraged to stay and watch the kids enjoy the day.
