POLICE
will investigate the attempted sabotage of last Thursday’s Kilmore race meeting after two steel rods were discovered protruding from the track.
The meeting was abandoned after the 40cm pickets were found driven into the track near the home turn during a routine Racing Victoria stewards’ inspection.
Police were immediately alerted amid fears horses and jockeys had been deliberately targeted.
The discovery prompted Kilmore Racing Club chairman Dr Maxine Brain to describe it as “diabolical act” which could have had disastrous consequences.
“It’s a diabolical act and anyone cruel enough to have done something such as this should face the full brunt of the law,” she said.
“If the pickets were not found then the consequences could have been disastrous for an innocent horse or jockey.”
