McVeigh in call for road upgrades

-

URGENT upgrades to a notorious Warrego Highway intersection where a mother and daughter suffered fatal injuries in a traffic crash last month have been taken to the deputy prime minister.

Groom MP John McVeigh has met with nearby residents and regular users of Brimblecombe Rd near Kingsthorpe to hear safety concerns, and lobby for upgrades.

Against the backdrop of trucks on the Warrego Highway, Dr McVeigh this week said Brimblecombe Rd needed an upgrade “as these locals are stressing with me”.

“The intersection with Brimblecombe Rd and the Warrego Highway particularly needs attention,” he said.

“This intersection is going to be busier.

“This intersection, if we don’t get the safety upgrades, is only going to become more dangerous.”

Residents called for - at a minimum - a sign highlighting turning trucks from the recently-upgraded highway into the arterial Brimblecombe Rd.

“I am lobbying the deputy prime minister at the moment,” Dr McVeigh said.

“Brimblecombe Rd itself has long-term solutions. In the interim, of course, we need to focus on this intersection to provide safe turning lanes and to avoid tragedies in the future.”
