CYCLING: Jacson McNamara is ready to test himself against a new level of competition.

The determined young mountain biker recently returned from the Queensland State XCO titles with a silver medal in his age group after a tough competition.

“There was a fair bit of a gap between me and first place,” McNamara.

“He was really fast but I never gave up.

“I’m happy with how I went though, the course was pretty challenging.

“I reckon some of the uphill climbs were actually a bit more technical than the downhill sections.”

With the 2018 race season winding to a close the 14-yearold Highfields rider will turn his attention to training – a lot more training.

“I’m thinking about competing in the Wild West series early next,” he said.

“Once I turn 15 I’ll have to step up a category though.

“I’m thinking about going into B-grade.

“It’ll be tough but I’m looking forward to it.

“Some of the riders will be older, stronger and faster but I love a challenge.

“I think one of my strengths is I never give up.”
