ESETA Aupaau and the team at the Drug ARM Red Edge op shop have jumped into the Christmas spirit early.

Miss Aupaau handed over a donation of wrapped presents to Base Services yesterday.

Base Services social worker Tiff Spary said she was grateful for its festive donation.

“These presents will be handed out to the clients at the shelter around Christmas time,” Mrs Spary said.

Miss Aupaau said the gifts that were donated included clothing and toys.

“I was inspired by my childhood to organise this donation,” she said.

“My parents always gave donations to the homeless during the Christmas season when I was a child.

“It feels great to be able to help the community and those in need.”

Mrs Spary said Christmas could be a particularly hard time for the homeless.

“This time of year can intensify feelings of isolation and loneliness because a lot of services are closed,” she said.

Base Services is a Toowoomba-based, not-for-profit organisation which provides aid to people who are at risk or are suffering through homelessness.

Mrs Spary said the contribution from the op shop helped the service provide a little bit of hope to its clients.

“It is initiatives and partnerships like this which allows us to continue our mission,” she said.

Anyone at risk of homelessness can contact the Base Services on 4638 2399.
