Clubs serve together

ST GEORGE: The St George Lions Club branch took part in World Service Day on Sunday.

The club holds a luncheon each year for senior citizens throughout the region on the day.

St George Lions Club event organiser Keith Codrington said the day was a highlight in the club’s calendar.

“We had about 140 people arrive to enjoy the luncheon,” Mr Codrington said.

“The local rugby league club helped out with the bar and we’re grateful of their contributi­on.

“It was great to see young people to turn out to do their bit.”

World Service Day is an event where Lions clubs worldwide support their local community through a charity events.

Mr Codrington said he was proud of the types of service the club offered to the wider community.

“The local rugby league club has been helping us for the past 10 years,” he said.

“We have supported each other throughout the years and them running the bar maintains our strong relationsh­ip.”
