Show full of laughs
THE hilarious true story of the worst singer of the world was recently performed at the Toowoomba Repertory Theatre.
The stage comedy Glorious! told the story of 1940s New York socialite and amateur soprano Florence Foster Jenkins.
Show director Mark Phythian said Jenkins was an enthusiastic soprano who warbled and screeched her way through performances to the laughter of invited audiences.
“People may recall her story portrayed by Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant in the popular 2016 biographical comedy film named after the soprano,” he said.
“It has definitely been an interesting play to stage and in order to do the play justice, we needed the actors playing Florence and her accompanist to have musical ability.”
