WENTWORTH prison’s trademark teal tracksuits won’t being hung up just yet, with Foxtel announcing the TV show has been renewed for a further 20 episodes.

In an Australian record for subscription television, the critically acclaimed prison drama will hit 100 episodes, with the extended eighth season continuing through to 2021.

“The renewal of this muchloved drama is testament to Foxtel’s unwavering commitment to Australian storytelling,” Foxtel’s executive director of television Brian Walsh said.

“The writers have created a new icon for Australian television, a show that will be remembered for generations to come as a show that really changed the rules yet again.”

Kate Jenkinson, who plays Allie Novak, said the cast was “optimistic” about the drama being renewed.

“More is more when it comes to Wentworth, the ante just keeps getting upped every single year,” she said.

Production of the new episodes will begin in September next year.
