16 arrested in beach blitz
SIXTEEN people have been arrested in a crackdown on rowdy behaviour at Melbourne’s St Kilda beach.
Police swarmed the foreshore and surrounding areas on Thursday night in Operation Sandsafe.
Police made 16 arrests for offences including being drunk in a public place, possessing drugs of dependence, attempted robbery, assaulting police, criminal damage and failing to obey lawful direction. The blitz came a day after Port Phillip Council voted to ban alcohol and glassware over summer on the St Kilda foreshore.
