Schol­ar­ship a ‘sur­real’ mo­ment

TOOWOOMBA stu­dent Naomi Ryan has been awarded a schol­ar­ship worth $22,500 to pur­sue her dreams in South Aus­tralia.

The 18-year old re­ceived a schol­ar­ship to the In­ter­na­tional Col­lege of Ho­tel Man­age­ment and will be­gin study­ing later this month.

Ms Ryan said she was sur­prised when she found out she had been awarded the schol­ar­ship.

“It was quite a sur­real mo­ment,” she said. “It’s a priv­i­lege to be given this step­ping stone for my ca­reer.”

Ms Ryan spent the past two years work­ing to be ac­cepted in the col­lege, re­garded as one of the top ho­tel schools in the world.

Ms Ryan said she looked for­ward to mov­ing to Ade­laide.

“I have lived in Toowoomba for ba­si­cally my whole life and have only left the coun­try once,” she said.

“I’m look­ing for­ward to it, and I will take ev­ery op­por­tu­nity while I am down there.

“It will be a lot of fun while I find my­self and my in­de­pen­dence.”

Ms Ryan will un­der­take the col­lege’s Bach­e­lor of Busi­ness pro­gram and will be granted di­rect en­try into the Mas­ter of In­ter­na­tional Ho­tel Man­age­ment af­ter.

She said she was grate­ful for the sup­port her par­ents had given her.
