No play was possible in Keith’s Friday last Friday due to rain, however bowlers did have pleasant weather the following day for the club’s opening day. In a draw for partners events, two games of eight ends were played and the winners were Ray Emerson and Ron Dean with two wins and 17 shots up from the unlucky Geoff Brentnall and Bill Avery with +16. The other two-game winners were a distant last with +1 and that was Geoff Backhouse and Archie Ellis. Best second game winners were Graeme Hickey and Mary Hoog with +7. Now that the season is officially open, it is time to check some dates off as September is a very busy month with practice matches and training, not to forget trade days and the Share the Wealth event on Tuesday. Bowlers are urged to get their names down, especially for the club practice matches so the selectors can choose grades. Names in now assists everybody in the selection of teams and the first practice match is on Sunday against Corowa at Barooga at 10 am. Club books and association books, along with membership cards, will be available this week at the various events, so that is another reason to go along and be seen at the club. Sheets are on the board for recording any days you will not be available for pennant. If you know you will not be available on a particular day, record your name on the sheets provided for both Saturday pennant and Friday pennant. Trade days for both women and men start this week and the women’s 100-up entries close on Friday. There is a special women’s barefoot bowls night set down for Monday, September 10, so entries for this event are sought. See Ray Koch for details.
