One of Cobram’s biggest hotspots for keen Christmas light thrillseekers is already ready for action.
Ron and Kath Renfrew’s home at 7 Davey St, Cobram, has been a permanent fixture on the town’s Christmas lights circuit for many years and the couple’s excitement for the festive period is again nearing fever pitch.
‘‘We have approximately 30 000 lights on display covering the home, and the Santa is made up of 3300 lights,’’ Mr Renfrew said.
‘‘We open our garden and carport for everyone to walk around and see the lights close up.’’
Mr Renfrew encouraged everyone to come inside the property to appreciate the full extent of the light show.
‘‘Sightseers who just sit in their cars cannot see all of the lights, you have to come in.’’
He said children hoping to see Santa before his big night flying around the globe would also be in luck.
‘‘On Christmas Eve, we have Santa and Mrs Claus come and visit us and they sit on the front veranda and give all the children a soft toy, with 300 toys dished out each year,’’ Mr Renfrew said.
‘‘Santa arrives about 8.30 pm and leaves at 10.30 pm to start his rounds.’’
Mr Renfrew said on top of the Christmas festivities and plenty of fun for children, community members have a chance to make a difference to the lives of many children doing it tough during the Christmas period.
‘‘We will also have a donation tin in the garden where visitors can make a donation to Heartkids Victoria if they want to (visitors are not expected to make a donation to come in).’’
Christmas cheer: Santa is made up of 3300 lights.
Lights on: The 7 Davey St home has been a constant on the Christmas lights circuit in Cobram for years.
