Fam­ily af­fair at as­so­ci­a­tion round

Some of Co­bram-Ba­rooga’s best golfers, in­clud­ing one starstud­ded fam­ily, en­joyed fan­tas­tic per­for­mances at the Goul­burn Mur­ray Golf As­so­ci­a­tion Cham­pion of Cham­pi­ons at Shep­par­ton Golf Club.

The Novem­ber 18 event saw the 20 club cham­pi­ons in the re­gion com­pete for the district cham­pion ti­tle, while their guests played a hand­i­cap event.

In the women’s sec­tion, Shep­par­ton Golf Club’s Kim Mor­ris won scratch with 79, ahead of Co­bram-Ba­rooga’s Rowena Wal­lace with 84.

In the men’s sec­tion, it was a much tighter con­test with Hill Top Tatura’s Matt Miller tak­ing the hon­ours with a four un­der the card 68 to de­feat Tocumwal’s Caleb Bo­valina on 69.

Miller started with an ea­gle, then birdie, for the first two holes to set up his great round, while Bo­valina counted with his own ea­gle on the back nine.

In the hand­i­cap events for the guests, Shep­par­ton’s Marie Brown with 75 net won ahead of Rich River’s Karen Fitzger­ald on 78.

Co­bram-Ba­rooga’s Ni­cholas Giles won the men’s event with great 68 net with Nathalia’s Bernard O’Hare sec­ond with a 72 nett.

Marie Brown, Rowena Wal­lace and Matt Miller (two) took home the near­est the pin prizes.

Team events were run for pure cham­pion and guest teams and for pick-up teams.

In the pure cham­pi­ons, Co­bram-Ba­rooga’s team of Rowena and Mar­garet Wal­lace and Chris Tom­lin­son and Ni­cholas Giles won with a com­bined net score of 308.

A spe­cial high­light of this team was the three gen­er­a­tion fam­ily con­nec­tion of grand­mother, mother and son com­bi­na­tion of Mar­garet, Rowena and Chris.
