Family affair at association round
Some of Cobram-Barooga’s best golfers, including one starstudded family, enjoyed fantastic performances at the Goulburn Murray Golf Association Champion of Champions at Shepparton Golf Club.
The November 18 event saw the 20 club champions in the region compete for the district champion title, while their guests played a handicap event.
In the women’s section, Shepparton Golf Club’s Kim Morris won scratch with 79, ahead of Cobram-Barooga’s Rowena Wallace with 84.
In the men’s section, it was a much tighter contest with Hill Top Tatura’s Matt Miller taking the honours with a four under the card 68 to defeat Tocumwal’s Caleb Bovalina on 69.
Miller started with an eagle, then birdie, for the first two holes to set up his great round, while Bovalina counted with his own eagle on the back nine.
In the handicap events for the guests, Shepparton’s Marie Brown with 75 net won ahead of Rich River’s Karen Fitzgerald on 78.
Cobram-Barooga’s Nicholas Giles won the men’s event with great 68 net with Nathalia’s Bernard O’Hare second with a 72 nett.
Marie Brown, Rowena Wallace and Matt Miller (two) took home the nearest the pin prizes.
Team events were run for pure champion and guest teams and for pick-up teams.
In the pure champions, Cobram-Barooga’s team of Rowena and Margaret Wallace and Chris Tomlinson and Nicholas Giles won with a combined net score of 308.
A special highlight of this team was the three generation family connection of grandmother, mother and son combination of Margaret, Rowena and Chris.
